In attendance;
Gale Cuthbert, Tracy Roemer, Natalie Pacheco, Jefferson Livingston, John Sand, Hal Hart, Ted Morris
We discussed the progress so far of mapping all the public properties in our UGA. Gale Cuthbert has done a great job on the Whatcom County Parks parcels and the next step is to map our Public Works list of properties.
We discussed updating the bicycle-pedestrian and trails master plan for the area. We need to plan for links into and out of the UGA as well. We discussed the possibility of a bike path connecting Harborview Road with Maple Street. Ted is working on these projects.
The opportunity of helping eradicate the blackberry vines on Bay Horizon sports fields as a volunteer project on Earth Day was brought up.
John Sand mentioned a 1% fee on property sold in San Juan County that goes towards purchasing parcels to be used as open space. He will try to get more information on the program.
-A tree retention plan was discussed and Hal Hart suggested we contact the new County Forester Victor Ensera. We noted the important role trees play in erosion control, water quality and as wildlife habitat. Trees look nice too.
Our meetings are on the 3rd Monday of every other month at 6:30pm. The next meeting is June 19th.
